International Belly Dancer, Fusion Belly Dance Artist & Instructor in Los Angeles, California

 

Tracy Rhaj is an international belly dancer, instructor, and choreographer based in Los Angeles, California, with over two decades of experience in Fa tChance Belly Dance® Style (formerly known as American Tribal Style / ATS®), fusion belly dance, and traditional belly dance style.

While Tracy has explored numerous dance styles, including West African Dance, Flamenco, and even Contemporary, her heart truly belongs to fusion belly dance. This style allows her to express her authentic self on stage, embracing the creative freedom that comes with being a fusion artist. She primarily blends the elegance of traditional Raqs Sharqi with her own artistic vision, incorporating original costume designs, innovative fusion belly dance technique, and eclectic musical choices.

How it all started:

Her dance journey began in 2004, when she joined Kris Ohman's classes. Kris was the founder of the troupe Blue Stars of Tanit, specializing in Fat Chance Belly Dance® Style. In 2006, the troupe won 1st place at Belly Dancer of the Universe under the "Tribal Group category." She also credits her mother, Veronica, for introducing her to Hawaiian and Tahitian dance at just five years old, as her mom was a dance instructor as well.

 

 

Tracy has trained extensively with some of the most world-renowned belly dance instructors, including Carolena Nericcio, Rachel Brice, Zoe Jakes, April Rose, Mira Betz, Josefine Wandel, Edenia Archuleta, and Sonia Ochoa, and has shared the stage with several of these iconic artists.

 

Event Producer and International Belly Dancer

As an event producer and mentor, Tracy founded Tribal Fest Guadalajara® and Experimental Hafla to celebrate and showcase fusion belly dance during the time she lived in Guadalajara, Mexico with the goal of promoting this relatively new style of dance and to have her students also train with international teachers.  For these magnificent festivals, Tracy hosted Sonia Ochoa, April Rose, Mira Betz, Silvia Salamanca, Ashley Lopez, Josefine Wandel, Edenia Archuleta, and more international artists!

 

Her academic background includes Diplomas in Dance Education Methodology and advanced training in Functional Analysis of the Body in Movement (AFCMD) with dance pedagogue Mireya Martínez Solís, strengthening her expertise in dance pedagogy and technique.

 

In 2022, she earned her Teacher Training Certification in the Siren Project’s Fat Chance Belly Dance® Flamenco Fan Dialect, under the direction of the founders themselves: Katarzyna Lidia, Agata Zakrzewska, and Eileen Kim.

Most recently, in April 2025, she achieved the Diamonds Certification through the one and only Zoe Jakes’ DanceCraft Certification Program in Oakland, California.

 

In 2025 as well, as an international belly dancer and event producer with connections in the belly dance scene, Tracy founded Rhaqsira Belly Dance Fest in Los Angeles, California. In this first edition, Sonia Ochoa, Edenia Archuleta, and Tracy Lynn were the beloved Guest Teachers. The festival also festured a Gala Show, which was amazing! Next year, the festival will continue to grow and offer another fabulous experience!
